West Indies bowlers made a resounding comeback from the last match as they restricted Team India to 170 runs at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Kesrick Williams and Hayden Walsh starred with the ball to keep in check the world-class Indian batsmen. Meanwhile, the batsmen found it hard to time the ball on a sluggish wicket with Rishabh Pant even losing his bat once.

The host openers – KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma failed to fire along with skipper Virat Kohli, who was back from an unbeaten match-winning knock. Shivam Dube’s belligerent fifty and the cameo by Rishabh Pant, India have managed to post a competitive total on a slightly sluggish wicket. India played the masterstroke by promoting Dube at the top-order, and it paid off as he struck a quickfire 54 off just 30 deliveries including three boundaries and four sixes.

Rishabh Pant loses his bat

After conceding more than 90 runs in the initial ten overs of the innings, it was a good comeback by West Indies to pull things back and restrict India to 170. Hayden Walsh and Kesrick Williams bagged two wickets each, whereas Sheldon Cottrell executed his variations smartly towards the end. Rishabh Pant showed maturity as India posted 170 runs on a two-paced wicket which even saw Pant struggling to time the ball and also losing his bat once.

The incident took place during the last of the innings with left-handed pace bowler Sheldon Cottrell bowling to Rishabh Pant, who has till then looked good with the bat. Seeing Pant target the leg-side, Cottrell bowled one outside the stump. It was a full one, and the wicket-keeper batsman loses his bat as he swings hard. The bat slipped out of Pant’s hands and flew towards the leg umpire.
