Shahbaz Nadeem, on Thursday, broke the long-standing record for the best-ever List A figures. The Jharkhand bowler achieved the feat in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy against Rajasthan at Murugappa Ground, in Chennai. Nadeem finished the game with a scarcely-believable figures of 10-4-10-8..

Due to his stunning spell, Rajasthan were bundled out for just 73 in 28.3 overs.

The record of best List A figures was previously held by Delhi’s Rahul Sanghvi. He had taken 8 for 15 in an encounter against Himachal Pradesh in the ’97-98 domestic season.

Nadeem joins an elite list of bowlers who have picked up eight wickets in a List A innings which includes the likes of Chaminda Vaas, Michael Holding and Derek Underwood. Vaas, the former Sri Lankan bowler, is also the only one to have managed an eight-wicket haul in a One-Day International against Zimbabwe in 2001.

Coming to the game, Rajasthan were off to a slow but steady start. Their openers added 32 runs in the first 10 overs before Nadeem began his demolition job. At one stage, it looked like the spinner would go on to take all the ten wickets after picking up 8 wickets in 8 overs.  However, Anukul Roy, another left-arm spinner picked up the ninth wicket, that of Deepak Chahar, to break the sequence.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand chased down 74 inside 15 overs.

Well, Nadeem will be hoping that his latest exploit help him earn his maiden India call-up. The spinner, one of the most prolific wicket-taker in domestic circuit, has been in contention for quite some time now. He is regularly featuring for India A but is yet to receive a call from the senior team. Recently, he played for India A team that defeated Australia A by six wickets. Nadeem had picked up 5 wickets in that game.
