Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has once again slammed Gautam Gambhir, this time for the latter’s comment on the upcoming India-Pakistan clash in the World Cup. Gambhir, who recently won the elections from East Delhi, reiterated that India should boycott Pakistan in the World Cup because of the Pulwama Attack. On February 14, a suicide bomber from the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a CRPF bus, killing at least 40 personnel and leaving many critically wounded.

Following the incident, there was a widespread call to boycott Pakistan from every sector including cricket. India’s cricketing fratnerity has also responded brilliantly and did whatever it could do to respect the sentiment of the common mass. The BCCI had also not remained far behind and had asked other nations to cut ties with a country which promotes terrorism.

Gambhir has said that India should boycott Pakistan in the World Cup, saying that one cannot play with the sentiments of the common mass.

“We can’t play with the sentiments of our country,” he told Zee News Hindi. “Two points are not important than the lives of our soldiers but for this, the entire country needs to be on the same page. We should have the courage to lose points even it’s the first match or the finals.”

“Even if we boycott playing the World Cup final against Pakistan, the country must stand together, there can’t be a difference of opinions,” said Gambhir. “There should not be any backlash for the decision taken.”

Shahid Afridi has now hit back at Gambhir, calling him bewakoof (idiot) as he criticised the Indian people for voting for him. Afridi, who recently revealed in his autobiography that he would not let his daughters play outdoor games because of his religious faiths, was criticising the biggest democracy in the world, saying:

“Does this look like something which a sensible person would say? Do educated people talk like this?”

Meanwhile, the World Cup will start on May 30 while India and Pakistan will meet on June 16 in Manchester.
