Team Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan bagged a king pair during the only practice game against Essex. The southpaw was dismissed without bothering the scorers for the 2nd time in the match. He has been troubled quite regularly in overseas conditions. He has a great record in home conditions. However, he has failed to replicate his form outside the subcontinent.

For yet another time Dhawan was squared up by Matthew Quinn with a peach of a delivery. The ball pitched in middle and leg and shaped away to dismantle the stumps. It is always a pleasant sight for any fast bowler running in. With two ducks, Dhawan has not done any favours for his selection in the Test series.

In all likelihood, KL Rahul will open the innings with Murali Vijay when the opening Test starts at Birmingham on 1st August. Dhawan has looked totally out of sorts in challenging conditions. Barring a solitary century in New Zealand, the southpaw has been pretty ordinary outside the subcontinent. Even in India’s last tour to England, Dhawan failed quite miserably.

Shikhar Dhawan in disarray

He has looked in disarray while facing the county pacers. Hence imagine what might happen if he gets the nod in the opening Test. He has jeopardized his position in the team. With KL Rahul emerging as a class act, Dhawan’s Test career might well fade away into oblivion in the recent times. He scored a fluent half-century in the 1st innings and is currently batting on 9 in the 2nd innings.

India is currently playing a 3 day game against Essex. This is the final day of the match and it is heading towards a tame draw. India posted a competitive 395 on the board in their 1st innings. Four batsmen made 50+ scores but none could convert it into a big one. Dinesh Karthik was the top scorer with 82. Kohli, Rahul and Murali Vijay also chipped in with fifties.

Essex batted pretty well in their 1st innings and eventually declared their innings on 359/8. Paul Walter starred with the bat as well after bagging 4 wickets. He was the top scorer with 75 studded with 13 fours and a six.
