Shimron Hetmyer would have feared the worst after flopping in the last edition of the Indian Premier League. After becoming the youngest centurion in the Caribbean Premier League and impressing against India, the West Indies star was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 4.2 crore in the last auction.

However, he failed to live up to the hype surrounding him. Shimron Hetmyer managed to score just 90 runs from 5 games as the Royal Challengers Bangalore failed to make it to the playoffs once again. Unsurprisingly, the Royal Challengers released him ahead of the auction for the next season of the IPL.

But the release turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the highly-rated batsman as he earned a lucrative deal of INR 7.75 from Delhi Capitals. The Capitals, Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders went after the hard-hitting batsman before the national capital-based secured his services. Hetmyer became the second-most expensive West Indian player in this auction after fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell, who was bought by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 8.50 crore.

“We were looking for an X-factor. We went for Glenn Maxwell and we went for a particular limit, but couldn’t go beyond that. Hetmyer is someone who can come and change the game for us in a span of few overs,” Delhi Capitals Chairman Parth Jindal said at the auction.

Hetmyer, meanwhile, has impressed once again in the ongoing series against India. He finished the three-match T20I series as West Indies’ top run-scorer before scoring a match-winning 85-ball century in the first ODI.

Shimron Hetmyer delighted:

Shimron Hetmyer was extremely delighted after being roped in by Delhi Capitals and his reaction made his emotions very clear. Delhi Capitals posted a clip of the West Indies star where he could be seen dancing his heart out.
