All eyes were on Virat Kohli when he came out to bat for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing game against Rajasthan Royals. Both the teams had entered the contest after losing all of their opening three games. And when Ajinkya Rahane decided to bowl first, the focus soon shifted to Kohli the opener. In the first three games of the season, Kohli had failed to deliver as per expectations.

In the first game against defending champions Chennai Super Kings, he could only score 6. He then showed some form and scored a fluent 46 against Mumbai Indians but still ended up on the losing side. His form deserted him again on Sunday when his team was in deep trouble while chasing 231 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kohli could score just three before falling to Sandeep Sharma for the sixth time in the IPL.

And Virat Kohli’s poor form continued in Jaipur too. The Royal Challengers skipper started on a cautious manner. Mixing caution with aggression, he hit a handful of boundaries to get going. But before he could convert his start, Shreyas Gopal bamboozled him with a cracker of a delivery.  The right-hander, who is one of the best players of spin bowling in world cricket, failed to read the  wrong ‘un from Gopal while pressing forward.

As a result, he ended up making a huge gap between bat and pad. The ball found its way between Kohli’s bat and pad before destroying the stumps. A dejected Kohli had no other option but to walk back while Gopal celebrated it wildly. Gopal’s reaction made it quite clear that even he could not believe he had dismissed the best batsman in the world. Kohli, meanwhile, scored 23 off 25 with the help of three fours.

An avid cricket lover, I just love this game more than anything. Writing about cricket keeps me closer to the game.
