Victoria snatched an emphatic one-run win from the jaws of defeat against Tasmania, who lost the plot by relentlessly chasing the bonus point. They lost their last five wickets for just three runs to go down by a solitary run.

Tasmania were flying at 172 for four in the 39th over chasing Victoria’s 185, needing just 14 more runs for the win. Knowing that if they could achieve their target by the end of the 40th over, they would secure a valuable bonus point, the Tasmanians threw caution to the wind.

Previously, batting first, Tasmania ran down Victoria’s opening pair reducing them to 24 for two. The batters got starts but Jackson Bird and James Faulkner came back at them to have them 64 for five, leaving Victoria in deep trouble.

The middle-order also failed to deliver as Glenn Maxwell (34) and Matt Short (27) added 45 runs for the sixth wicket. However, it was from the 19-year-old Will Sutherland’s valiant knock of 53 runs from 66 deliveries which took Victoria to a challenging total of 185 runs.
