All eyes will be on Andre Russell when Chennai Super Kings host Kolkata Knight Riders at the Chepauk tonight. Russell has been in red-hot form at the moment. Almost every bowler who has come to bowl at him in the ongoing Indian Premier League has been taken to the cleaners.  So far, he has amassed a staggering 207 runs in just 77 balls. While no other batsman has so far hit more than 12 sixes, Russell has hit an unbelievable 22 in just four innings.  Andre Russell has scored at an average of over 103 and a strike-rate of over 268. In five games so far, Russell has walked away with the Man of the Match award thrice.

Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming has insisted that the team will do any special preparation to stop the in-form Jamaican.

“Possibly, there are a couple of challenges. One is you ignore the other six (batsmen). And in a team that has (Chris) Lynn, (Dinesh) Karthik and (Robin) Uthappa you do that at your own peril. We’ve got to be careful we don’t focus overtly on Russell,” Fleming said at the press conference.

“Even though he has been so dynamic, there’s still good work done by the other players. So, again, I stress it doesn’t change our preparation to focus on one or two players, but we’re acutely aware of how dangerous these players are so, it’s business as usual for us,” Fleming said.

However, the form Andre Russell is in at the moment, he could very well make Fleming eat his words. What more, Russell knows what it takes to perform at the Chepauk. The last time the Knight Riders had visited Chennai, Russell had blown them away by slamming 88 runs from just 36 balls. The Knight Riders were reeling at 89 for 5 after ten overs when Russell came to the crease. And by the time the innings ended, the Knight Riders had finished on 202 although they had gone on to lose the game. His knock contained a staggering 11 sixes with Super Kings’ most reliable bowler Dwayne Bravo was hit for 6 sixes.
