Matthew Wade and Neil Wagner were involved in a fierce battle on day three of the ongoing third Test between Australia and New Zealand in Perth. After being bowled out for just 166 and conceding a 250-run lead, New Zealand bowlers came out all guns blazing with the ball in the second innings. Under the lights, the Kiwi pacers were making life difficult for the hosts.

Led by Neil Wagner, New Zealand peppered the Australian batsmen with shot-pitched deliveries. Those short-balls also helped the visitors send a number of batsmen back to the pavilion, including Steve Smith. And thus when Matthew Wade came out to bat, he decided not to hook or pull any short delivery. But Neil Wagner did not make things easier for the southpaw as the pacer kept bowling short at him.

But Wade was not succumbing to the pressure either as he decided against hitting the short balls. Consequently, he was hit on his body on a number of occasions. The left-handed batsman showed the famous Australian never-say-die attitude and even made Wagner clap for him once.

Wade’s reply:

The duel continued on day four too as Neil Wagner continued bowling short at Matthew Wade. And the Australian batsman made it clear to Wagner that he is not bothered about the short deliveries by telling the New Zealand pacer: “Keep coming big boy.”

Australia, meanwhile, are in command of the proceedings in Perth. They declared their second innings on 217 for 9 to set the visitors an improbable total of 468. In reply, New Zealand were off to a poor start and were reeling at 74 for 4 at the time of compiling this report.
