Hanuma Vihari and Ishant Sharma combined well for the eighth wicket as India piled on the runs in the second session of day two in Jamaica. While Vihari played an innings of high-class, Ishant frustrated the bowlers to post 416 runs on the board.

The pair added 112 for the eighth wicket to bail India out of difficult situations. The visitors lost Rishabh Pant in the first ball of the day when Jason Holder cleaned him up. But Hanuma Vihari stood tall and kept up his good work to lead India’s middle-order.

He partnered Ravindra Jadeja to bring his half-century before joining hands with Ishant Sharma. Vihari was unbeaten on 84 at the stroke of lunch. He unlikely from the first Test didn’t rush through the last few runs and waited for the loose deliveries.

Ishant Sharma from the other end, kept the scoreboard ticking as West Indies bowlers looked resilient. Vihari eventually got to the landmark with a boundary and registered his maiden Test ton. Ishant, who has batted really well as a tailender in the series once again did the job when his side needed the most.

Ishant’s enterprising knock of 57, off just 80 balls included seven boundaries. It wasn’t an easy pitch to bat on, but Ishant was resilient in his approach and played a vital role in Vihari maintaining his composure. Soon after Ishant Sharma reached his fifty-run mark with a single, skipper Virat Kohli jumped off his chair to congratulate the batsman.

The India skipper seemed overjoyed and went gaga after the milestone while Ishant Sharma also responded with a broad smile while showing his bat to the pavilion.
