Team India will be looking to become just the second team after Australia to win the World Cup thrice when they start their World Cup campaign on June 5. India will be one of the favourites for the forthcoming World Cup. The Men in Blue have dominated the ODIs since the conclusion of the last World Cup in 2015. In fact, India is the most successful team since the last World Cup with 55 wins in ODIs. Unsurprisingly, the expectations are sky high from Virat Kohli & Co. as they look to bring the World Cup home.

India’s hopes will very much rely on their skipper Kohli. The right-handed batsman has become the batting mainstay of the team. Kohli averages 60.08 and is already the second highest centurion in ODIs with 41 tons to his name. He now trails Tendulkar’s record tally of 49 centuries by just 8 and is more than likely to break it in the coming days.

Earlier this year, he scripted history by becoming the first player in history to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Cricketer of the Year, as well as the ICC Men’s Test Player of the Year and the ICC ODI Player of the Year awards. Kohli was also named captain of ICC’s Test and ODI teams of 2018 after yet another fruitful year with the bat. In 2018, Kohli scored 1,322 runs at an average of 55.08 in 13 Tests with five hundreds while in 14 ODIs he amassed 1202 runs at an astonishing average of 133.55 with six tons.

Unsurprisingly, Kohli will have to play an important role if India are eyeing the World Cup. And ahead of the World Cup, he has shown he is in fine form.  The BCCI posted a video of Kohli’s net session and the skipper looked in stunning touch as usual.
