India skipper Virat Kohli, on Monday (December 5), once again showed why cricket is called the gentleman’s game as he kept the on-field rivalry aside to applaud a stunning fielding effort from Sri Lanka batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama during the ongoing Test in Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla.

The tension was running high in the game as players of both the teams were not on the same page regarding playing in the polluted air of the national capital. While the visiting players were fielding with the pollution masks on, constantly complaining about the conditions and looking desperate to walk away from the field, the Indian fielders seemed fine with it as they played in the same conditions without facing much of a difficulty.

However, when Samarawickrama made a stunning save during India’s second innings, Kohli could not stop himself from applauding the effort. The incident occurred in the 47th over when Suranga Lakmal‘s short ball was pulled hard by Rohit Sharma. The ball headed towards the mid-wicket boundary and was looking destined to cross the ropes before Samarawickrama nearly converted it into a catch. The opening batsman threw himself full length to his right and almost had the ball in his hand which popped out at the last moment. Kohli was soon seen tapping his bat to appreciate the effort.

Here is a clip of that stunning effort:
