Meanwhile, resuming at an overnight score of 174 for three, Virat Kohli, along with his deputy Ajinkya Rahane, extended the home team’s first-innings lead into three figures. Although Rahane got back to the pavilion, Kohli reached the three-figure mark; his 27th in Tests before India declared after securing a 243-run first-innings lead at Eden Gardens giving the bowlers time to finish off the game.

Virat Kohli stunned on the field

Ishant Sharma made a thumping start to reduced Bangladesh to 13 for four but Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah revived from there to push the game to day three before the latter had to walk back with a hamstring injury. Mehidy Hasan, who came in place of Mahmudullah also showed positive intent with the bat going for a pull of Mohammed Shami’s vicious bouncer.

The incident took place in the 24th over of Bangladesh’s 2nd innings when Mehidy tried to pull a Shami bouncer. The ball took a top edge and flew over the third-man fielder for a six leaving Virat Kohli stunned. The incident extracted an epic reaction from Kohli along with Mohammed Shami and other Indian cricketers in the field.
