Virat Kohli might have lauded Niroshan Dickwella for his attitude in the drawn first Test at the Eden Gardens but looking at his celebration after the Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batsman was dismissed on the first day of the ongoing second Test in Nagpur, one can say that the latter’s time-wasting antics was still fresh in India skipper’s mind.

After being set an improbable 231-run target and left with just over a session to bat, Sri Lanka were in a huge trouble when they were reduced to 22 for 4. With the visitors losing the grip on the game and India strengthening it, things heated up thereafter as Dickwella sought to waste time when India’s pacers wanted to get through as many overs as possible.

As Mohammed Shami ran in to bowl the 19th over of Sri Lanka’s innings, Dickwella was yet not ready to bat, this making Shami upset. Dickwella was soon involved in a heated altercation with Kohli and Shami. Tthings were on the verge of getting out of hands before the umpires intervened.

Sri Lanka went on lost two more wickets and were reeling at 75 for 7 before bad light ended their miseries as they walked away with a draw. Dickwella later received a word of praise from the India skipper.

“I like to see that character. I liked that competitiveness on the field. He is someone who takes lot of pride in his cricket. I am impressed with what I have seen so far of him from the last series as well. He has got great ability to do something very special for Sri Lankan cricket,” Kohli had told journalists before the second game.

However, the way Kohli celebrated after Dickwella hit a reckless shot to get out, one is compelled to think whether the the latter’s antics was still in the back of India skipper’s mind. Kohli was seen doing Bhangra after Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Dickwella.
