Turning the clock back to 2009, it was the day, which saw the other side of Gautam Gambhir. The flamboyant Delhi batsman has always been portrayed as the angry man but he has got another side of it as well. Though Virat Kohli has got numerous centuries and the man of the match awards, his first ODI century and the first man of the match award in ODI will always be special for obvious reasons.

It was the day when Virat Kohli scored his maiden ODI century for Team India. He played a brilliant knock of 107 to pair up with Gautam Gambhir while chasing a daunting total on the board.

Gautam Gambhir-Virat Kohli added 224 runs partnership:

Initially, it was Upul Tharanga, who knocked a stunning century to post over 300 on the board for Sri Lanka. Sangakkara also batted brilliantly to knock 60 runs to his name.

In reply, Team India lost both their openers when Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar walked back for 10 and 8 respectively. However, it was Gambhir and Virat Kohli, who took the attack back to the Islanders.

The duo shared a fine partnership of 224 runs between them to hurt Sri Lanka badly. Both knocked their individual hundreds to help India chase down the target. Though Virat Kohli walked back after scoring 107, Gambhir continued his majestic form by scoring 150* in the presence of Dinesh Karthik.

For his stunning effort, Gambhir was asked to receive the man of the match. However, as a token of appreciation, Gambhir asked Virat Kohli to collect the trophy for reaching his maiden century in ODI cricket.

However, later, a spat between them during the Indian Premier League match has portrayed them as enemies. But, in person, the duo has got the mutual respect for each other.
