Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) comeback season turned a bit sour when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to change their home venue from Chennai to Pune. The Board took the decision owing to security concerns amid the Cauvery protests.

The Super Kings had to leave for Pune just after making a happy homecoming at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. In their first home game, the defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the last-over thriller.

However, the clash was marred by controversy as 21 Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) party workers were arrested and sent to Puzhal Central Prison for holding protests over Cauvery issue outside Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium in a bid to stop an IPL match held there.

Some protestors had also hurled shoes on the ground when the game was going on.

The BCCI, on its part, did not any chance and shifted Super Kings’ home games to Pune. There were apprehensions that another city might not come up with support for the Super Kings.

However, the fans came out in large numbers and supported Mahendra Singh Dhoni & Co. to the fullest. The stadiums were jam-packed throughout and the players also gave the fans their money’s worth with some scintillating performances.

On Sunday, the Super Kings played their last home game in Pune. They defeated Kings XI Punjab by five wickets to sign off on a brilliant note.

A day after, Dhoni took to Instagram to leave a heartfelt message for the Pune fans. He posted a video where he could be seen walking towards the dressing room accompanied by his daughter Ziva and wrote:

“Ziva gives me company for the last walk to the Pune dressing room for this season.thanks a lot PUNE for supporting us and turning the whole stadium yellow. Hope CSK entertained you guys enough,” Dhoni posted on Instagram.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first qualifier on Tuesday.
