India Head Coach,  Ravi Shastri, has left everyone surprised as at the end of the T20I series against Sri Lanka he said that team India doesn’t take T20 cricket seriously,

“T20 cricket for us, we don’t care. You win or lose, it doesn’t matter, but give youngsters the opportunity so you come to know who is in the fray for 2019,” Shastri said at the end of the series.

It is a fact that T20I series is less talked about in Indian circles and India doesn’t play many T20I series as well, but this fact was never spoken. Though, Shastri has spoken the truth in public but is surely not something which the team management would like to reveal in the public domain.

Had Indian team not taken the series seriously, skipper Rohit Sharma would have tested out youngsters Basil Thampi and Deepak Hooda in the series as well but this not the case, which means that winning the series by a margin of 3-0 was the only motive of team members and management.

Indian team whitewashed Sri Lanka in the T20I series by a margin of 3-0.  In the final game of the series, Sri Lanka posted a total of 135 which the home side chased down in the final over of the game. The match was in an interesting position at one point in time, but, in the end, Sri Lanka failed to stop team India’s winning streak in the T20I series.

Team India will next play the T20I series against South Africa in February. Before the T20I series, both the teams will play a total of three Tests, and six ODIs. Team India is expected to bring back a full strength team in the T20I series instead of giving chances to youngsters.

In the ODI squad already, selectors dropped Siddharth Kaul and Washington Sundar from the side to bring back experienced likes of Mohammed Shami and Kedar Jadhav, which shows that on foreign soil, team India is highly unlikely to give chances to youngsters.
