It was a sensational game for Australia on the other day when facing Sri Lanka in the first T20I of the series. David Warner and Aaron Finch gave the perfect start while the specialist all-rounder Glenn Maxwell made things fall in place with his quickfire half-century.
During the 18th over of the Australia innings, Maxwell hit consecutive sixes off Kasun Rajitha to bring up his half-century off just 22 deliveries. The second six, in particular, caught the eye of fans as Maxwell’s shot had shades of Dhoni in it.
We started looking all-right – Glenn Maxwell
As for his own game, Maxwell figures to be an important part of Australia’s T20 World Cup plans. The early signs have already emerged, with his 28-ball 62 in Australia’s season-opening first T20I against Sri Lanka. The flamboyant batsman believes that the new model in domestic cricket will help the team to rise to new heights.
Further, Glenn Maxwell feels that the results have improved with the new ideology of picking the specialists for the format. He also believes that change in the batting order as per the requirement will certainly help the team during the crunch situations.
“For the last 18 months to two years I feel like we’ve probably turned a corner and results have massively improved,” Maxwell said. “I think that’s reflected in the way we’ve actually started looking at T20 cricket,” Glenn Maxwell quoted as per ESPN Cricinfo.
”We’ve started looking at ‘alright, let’s start, instead of picking our one-day side and turning it straight into our T20 side, let’s pick more specialists for this’, which is I think giving guys specialist roles as well, not just roll out the same batting line up or whatever.”
Australia thumped Sri Lanka in the first T20I of the three-match series to secure a record-breaking 134-run at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday. While David Warner,, Glenn Maxwell and Finch shone with the willow, it was the Aussie bowling attack that steamrolled past the islanders on a bouncy track in Adelaide.
