Jasprit Bumrah’s coaches have revealed that they never tried to alter the bowler’s action. Bumrah has a skiddy action which helps him in generating the brisk speed. Jasprit Bumrah had an outstanding start to the white ball format where he bowled with accuracy. Bumrah had a fine yorker and had the skills of keeping the runs down with his variations.

However, there were doubts raised whether Bumrah will achieve success in the red ball version. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah was able to let his ball do all the talking for him as he scalped 48 wickets in nine Test matches at an average of 21.02. Thus, Bumrah has had a stellar start to the red ball version.

Jasprit Bumrah is breathing fire.

He was also the architect of India’s win in the MCG as he scalped nine wickets for 86 runs. In fact, he took his best bowling figures of 6-33 in the first innings.

“His different bowling action is what caught my eye and even though many felt I need to work on his action, I didn’t bother to change it as he was generating serious pace and leaving batsmen puzzled,” says Kishore Trivedi (father of former Gujarat and Rajasthan Royals quick, Siddharth), Bumrah’s first coach at Ahmedabad’s Nirmal High School.
Vijay Patel, the Gujarat Cricket Association coach revealed that there were some changes in Bumrah’s action but nothing major took place. In fact, there were no changes when Bumrah trained at Dennis Lillee Academy.
“There have been minor adjustments here and there but nothing major. He also had a stint under Dennis Lilley at the MRF Pace Academy but there too his action was not changed,” said Vijay Patel.

Bumrah had a dream start to the red ball version.

Patel also revealed that there were some coaches who thought that Bumrah’s action will put him at a disadvantage. However, it wasn’t to be the case as Bumrah worked hard to be the best in the business.

“There were many experts who reckoned his action would get him into trouble with injuries because his bowling action puts certain parts of his body under extra pressure. But through biomechanics, we have learnt which part of his body needs to be strengthened and accordingly his training programme has been set to keep that part of the body strong,” Patel added.

Jasprit Bumrah is currently the number one bowler in the One Day Internationals. He also made a jump of 12 places after his MCG performance to claim the 16th rank in the ICC Test rankings. Consequently, Bumrah will like to continue with his good work.
