We Played With Heart And Desire, Says Virat Kohli After India End 5-Match Losing Streak

Team India beat Australia by 13 runs in the third and final ODI to end the series on a winning note. The win is India’s first in ODIs after losing five in a row. The result, however, does not have any affect on the result of the series as Australia had already sealed it by winning the first two games.

Virat Kohli won the toss for the first time this season and decided to bat first. Team India rode on fifties from Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja to post a challenging total of 302 for 5. The Men in Blue were off to a shaky start and lost wicket at regular intervals to find themselves reeling at 152 for 5 after 32 overs.

Jadeja and Pandya then shared an unbeaten stand of 150 runs off 108 balls to take the team to a good total.  Jadeja remained unbeaten on 66. His knock came off 50 balls and was studded with five fours and three sixes. On the other hand, Pandya scored 92 off just 76 balls with the help of seven fours and a six.

In reply, Australia were all out for 289 in the final over of the match. Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell scored fighting fifties but could not stay till the end to take their team over the line. For India, Shardul Thakur picked up three wickets while Jasprit Bumrah and T Natarajan picked two apiece.

Here is how Virat Kohli reacted after the match:

Speaking at the end of the game, Virat Kohli expressed his delight over the way Team India fought back in the game. He also said that the bowlers had their confidence up due to a better pitch. Virat Kohli also praised Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja for their match-winning partnership.

“It’s particularly pleasing that we were under the pump for the first half of our innings, and second half of Australia’s, and we fought back both times. One guy making his debut, Shubman coming back, that brought us some freshness. I think the pitch was much better in terms of helping the bowlers, so obviously the confidence levels go up.

“We were able to put Australia under pressure because of that fact as well. Playing international cricket for 13-14 years, you should be able to come back like we did. I would have liked to go on for a bit longer, but we had a great partnership between Hardik and Jadeja. It was exactly what the team needed to get that boost, even though we’ve lost the series. We played with heart and desire, and that’s what you need to do in Australia,” he added.
