The Men in Blue registered their first victory in the Nidahas Trophy after defeating Bangladesh in the 2nd match by wickets. The victory was largely built around a brilliant innings by Shikhar Dhawan yet again. Earlier in the day, it was some good bowling by the Indian bowlers who restricted Bangladesh to 139/7.
Bangladesh openers began steadily but the Indian bowlers bagged their wickets in quick succession. Litton Das scored a 30 balls 34 while Sabbir Rahman also chipped in with 30. Jayadev Unadkat bagged 3 wickets while debutant Vijay Shankar also chipped in with a couple of wickets. They were not able to execute the big shots and could only end up scoring 139/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Rohit struck 3 exquisite boundaries before falling to Mustafizur Rahman for 17. Rishabh Pant was pushed up the order. However, after smashing a boundary he chopped on a short of length delivery from Rubel Hossain straight on to his stumps.
Shikhar Dhawan yet again played a superb knock and made sure India reached the target quite comfortably in the end. Suresh Raina was also at his fluent best and struck some crisp shots to get going. It was a terrific partnership between them which eventually helped India cruise to a victory. The southpaw was eventually dismissed on 28 off 27 deliveries.
Both batsmen fell in quick succession. But by then they had taken India’s total within touching distance of the target. It was Manish Pandey who remained unbeaten on 27 off 19 deliveries. The Men in Blue eventually romped home by 6 wickets.
Here is what Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah said at the post-match presentation
We didn’t bat well. We should have scored 30 more runs. We need to find out how to get runs on these kind of wickets. Think the bowlers did a pretty good job. We need to rotate the strike more often. Dot balls create pressure on the batsmen. Need to find gaps and get boundaries in the middle overs.
