Indian captain Virat Kohli has established himself as the best batsman in the world. He is the only cricketer to possess a healthy average of 50+ across all formats of the game. He ended the calendar year on a high with most international runs to his name. However, this is not a new record for Virat Kohli.

For the fourth year in a row, he finished with the most runs in international cricket in a calendar year and thus, stretching his own massive record since 2016. Since 2016, Virat Kohli has ended with the most number of runs across formats- Tests, ODIs and T20Is combined, every year.

In 2016, Virat Kohli top-scored with 2595 runs to his credit and he followed that up with 2818 and 2735 runs in 2017 and 2018.  In this year, he scored 2443 runs across all formats. He was able to achieve this record in just 44 matches at a mind-boggling average of 65.83.

Srikkanth reveals one of the best moments of his cricketing journey

Meanwhile, former chairman of selectors Kris Srikkanth said that he takes full pride in the fact when he talks about the World Cup-winning squad which his selection panel named, in what turned out to be the biggest success in Indian cricket as MS Dhoni-led team became world champions in 2011.

“When I took over as the chairman in 2008, my dream was to build a team that could win the 2011 World Cup. God has been kind and we had a captain like MS Dhoni, and the win was still one of the best moments of my cricketing journey,” Krishnamachari Srikkanth told Times of India.

However, it was during this time when a batting prodigy Virat Kohli started to make waves in international cricket. “Let me also remind you, we were the ones who gave Virat Kohli the chance to flourish and look where he is today! So it has all been very satisfying,” he further added.
