We Would Not Have Won Two World Cups Without Yuvraj Singh: Harbhajan Singh

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s exemplary services to Indian cricket is commendable. The elegant southpaw played a substantial role in helping India lift 2007 World T20 and 2011 ODI World Cup. He hit the peak performances during the 2011 World Cup triumph where he chipped in with all-round performances.

He weaved the magic with the bat while also taking crucial wickets to help his team win the ODI world Cup after 28-years. Yuvraj Singh was named the man of the tournament for his all-round performances. He scored 362 runs and took 15 wickets. He called time on his international cricket career earlier this year.

After that, he has been featuring in T20 leagues across the world except the Indian Premier League. He was last seen in Abu Dhabi T10 League where he played for the Maratha Arabians. Meanwhile, veteran Harbhajan Singh heaps praise on former teammate Yuvraj Singh, crediting him for India’s success at the 2007 World T20 and 2011 ODI World Cup.

Indian off-spinner stressed on the fact that Yuvraj Singh was one of the stalwarts in the team who helped India make an indelible mark in the international stage.

“When we are talking about the World Cup. Where Indian cricket has reached now, I think Yuvraj Singh has had a huge role to play. People often talk about Sachin Tendulkar, people often talk about Sourav Ganguly, Anil Kumble and Kapil Dev. However, if there was no Yuvraj Singh, I don’t think we would have had those 2 World Cups — 2007 and 2011,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying by India Today.

Had it not been for Yuvraj Singh’s contribution, India would not have won two World Cups according to Harbhajan Singh. He said that India would have only reached the semis without Yuvraj Singh. He further went on to add saying that India was lucky to have had someone like Yuvraj Singh.

“All due to this guy for making this happen. Thank you Yuvi. If you didn’t have Yuvraj Singh, we would have only reached the semi-final. Good teams reach the semi-final. This time also, we reached the semi-final. To win a World Cup, you need a player like Yuvraj Singh. We were lucky and fortunate someone like Yuvraj,” Harbhajan added.
