West Indies is vying for their first Test series triumph on the England soil for the first time in 32 years under the captaincy of Jason Holder. Jason Holder has ensured his team takes momentum in the ongoing three-match Test series with a famous win in Southampton. At Southampton, chasing the target of 200 runs Jermaine Blackwood stepped in when the West Indies were reeling at 27/3.
Blackwood made sure to hold the fort for the visitors and stitched key partnerships. He forged a 73-run stand with Roston Chase before adding another 68 runs with Shane Dorwich. However, after playing the role of a sheet anchor, Blackwood was sent packing on 95 runs by Ben Stokes as he returned a catch to James Anderson for a second time straight.
However, Holder and Dorwich helped the West Indies cross the line. According to a Daily Mail report the West Indies will be given a huge bonus, which would be split among the team if they win the Test series in England.
“Under the terms of their Cricket West Indies contracts, Jason Holder’s team do not receive match win bonuses but are incentivised to win Test series with a total of £23,800 split between the squad,” according to a Daily Mail report.
“Half of the Windies’ win bonus is shared by their entire 15-man squad with the other divvied up between those actually taking to the field, meaning the allotment would drop to below £1,600 per man in the event of a win being achieved with all players featuring,” the report added.
The second Test will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester while the final match will also be played at the same venue. In their last meet, West Indies beat England 2-1 to clinch the Wisden Trophy.
