West Indies coach Phil Simmons has kept himself under self-isolation after attending a funeral. Phil Simmons has flown to England with the West Indies team, which is scheduled to play a three-Test series against the hosts. In absence of Simmons, assistant coaches will guide the players for training.
West Indies had reached England earlier in June to undergo the mandatory 14-day isolation period imposed by the government in UK. It will also give time to the bowlers to undergo necessary amount of practice before the start of the series.
Phil Simmons’ absence will not disrupt our preparations: Alzarri Joseph
Alzarri Joseph has told British media that the coach’s absence will not disrupt the preparations of the West Indies. He said the players know their job and will keep preparing. Besides that, Joseph also said that the West Indies have a big coaching staff which is very supportive of each other, so it should not be a problem.
“That doesn’t really disrupt our preparations,” Joseph told British media on Saturday.
“We have our jobs to do – we have our preparation to keep going with. We have a very big coaching staff here that are very supportive of each other, so that’s not really a problem for anyone.”
In Simmons absence, assistant coaches Roddy Estwick and Rayon Griffith will overlook the team’s second warm-up match. The three-Test series against England will get underway from July 8, marking the return of international cricket.
