Chennai Super Kings star Faf du Plessis, who has been an integral part of the IPL franchise, has opened up on why the team has done so well in the league so far. Chennai Super Kings are the most consistent team in the history of the competition. Having missed two seasons due to suspension, the Chennai-based outfit has made it to the final of IPL a record eight times in ten seasons.

The MS Dhoni-led side is still the only side to have won the IPL twice in consecutive years. Super Kings are also one of the only two teams to have won the IPL thrice or more so far. And Faf du Plessis recently lifted the lid on the thinking of the franchise which has made them one of the most successful teams in the league.

The former South Africa skipper said that that the reason behind the success of the team is that they have always targeted international captains to bring thinking cricketers in the team. He also showered praise on skipper MS Dhoni and said his leadership has a great influence on the team. The Proteas said that Super Kings become a different outfit without MS Dhoni.

Talking in an Instagram live session on Super Kings’ page, Faf du Plessis said: “If MS walks off the field. Chennai is a different team. He has got such strong leadership in the group. When MS is not there, the team is not the same. He leaves a massive hole when is he not in the team.”

Faf du Plessis also talked about whether it was difficult for him to play under another captain being a captain himself for a national team.

“There is one captain in the team so you understand what is your value. I personally, on-field make sure the position of fielders. You help out a little bit to the captain on the day. For guys who want to run the show every time, those people struggle to play under a captain,” said the South Africa star.
