Former India cricketer, Subramaniam Badrinath questioned the selection of Rohit Sharma over Mayank Agarwal in Australia Tests. Meanwhile, knowing the run-spree of Mayank in the domestic circuit, not picking him in the 18-man squad seems to be a blunder, especially in the eyes of Badrinath.

However, the right-handed batsman also became the highest run-getter in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018 and had scored three centuries and a double hundred for India A. The Karnataka batsman has fulfilled all the parameters to get his debut for India but has been made to wait so far.

In spite of having a great season, Mayank only received a call-up for Test series against the Windies. However, he didn’t manage to get into the playing XI in either of the Tests. Here we look at Mayank Agarwal’s numbers –

Syed Mushtaq Ali 2017/18  — 258 runs at 28.66, three half-centuries

Ranji Trophy 2017/18 — 1160 runs at 105.45, two half-centuries, five hundred

Vijay Hazare 2017/18 — 723 runs at 90.37, four fifties, three hundred

Moreover, Badrinath feels Mayank’s psychology. He understands the situation of being left out in spite of giving a good performance on a consistent basis.

“I can actually relate to him. He is not at fault and has been performing and getting runs. He earned his place, did not play a game and now, he is out of the team. I would like to ask the selectors what exactly is the process? Is it just to keep him satisfied that they got him into the side? What are they trying to do here?” Badrinath told Sportstar on Saturday.

Furthermore, Badrinath feels Mayank Agarwal has to control his emotions, as getting selected and playing for the national team is not so easy for him. The former Tamil Nadu batsman feels Mayank needs to be mentally healthy and keep enjoying the game.

“From Mayank’s point of view, he has to control the controllables. Selection is beyond his circle, and he needs to keep working on his game wherever he plays. It will be hard and mentally tough but that’s all he can do. He needs to keep enjoying his game,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mayank Agarwal would keen on repeating his performance in the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2018/19 for Karnataka.
