Anurag Thakur, the former BCCI president, has said he would never shy away from serving Indian cricket if he is given a responsibility. Thakur’s involvement with the game came to an end when Supreme Court removed him as the BCCI president on perjury charges. However, the politician is back in the mix of things after the apex court dropped the perjury charges against him earlier this month after he tendered an unconditional apology.

In December, the Supreme Court had threatened to initiate perjury charges against Thakur for allegedly lying about asking the International Cricket Council (ICC) to term the Lodha reforms as governmental interference. Thakur had filed a false affidavit back then, denying the accusations before being removed along with board secretary Ajay Shirke in January.

“dear Anurag thank u so much … need u back in indian cricket …”  Ganguly had tweeted in reply to Thakur’s birthday wish.

“It was kind of Sourav to have said something like that,” said Thakur. “I feel humbled when a former India captain says something like that. I have not decided anything but if Indian cricket requires me, I will be always available. I have never shied away from responsibility.”

“During all these months, I was busy doing what I love most – promoting sports. I organised the Himachal Pradesh State Olympics, which was a huge success. I am also involved with Hockey Himachal as promoting Olympic sports in the state has been one of my prime endeavours,” said Thakur, adding: “Also, I am the chairman of Parliamentary Committee on Information and Technology, my constituency work in Hamirpur – I had a very busy six months.”
