Veteran batsman Shoaib Malik made a stunning comeback to international cricket on Friday as he scored a match-winning fifty for Pakistan in the first T20I against Bangladesh. With the win, the world number one T20I side also snapped their five-match losing streak in T20Is.

Shoaib Malik’s 45-ball 58 not out was instrumental in Pakistan’s five-wicket win as the Men in Green chased down a modest total of 142 in 19.3 overs. Bangladesh had managed 141-5 in their 20 overs with openers Mohammad Naim scoring a 41-ball 43 and Tamim Iqbal hitting a 34-ball 39 as Pakistan’s three-man pace attack kept them in check on a flat pitch.

Pakistan’s chase started on a shaky note as their skipper Babar Azam was dismissed on only the second ball of the chase. Mohammad Hafeez looked in fine touch as he hit three boundaries before falling for 17. But before Bangladesh could make further inroads in the game, Shoaib Malik and debutant Ahsan Ali shared a 46-run stand to steady the ship. The veteran batsman remained till the end to take his side home.

Hilarious moment at press-conference:

When Shoaib Malik was addressing the media after the much-needed win, he was asked a hilarious question by one of the journalists. Rightly calling Malik the senior-most member of the team, the journalist asked the former Pakistan captain if he would be grooming Pakistan’s coach Misbah-ul-Haq.

“Shoaib, you spoke about grooming youngsters in the team, which is a responsibility of a senior player. So, you are even more senior than your coach (Misbah-ul-Haq), will you groom him as well?” asked a reporter.

As soon as the reporter finished the question, everyone present in the room including Malik burst out in laughter before the veteran answered the question brilliantly.

“There is no one in the world who can say that he has learnt everything. Sachin Tendulkar couldn’t say that or other people couldn’t say that they have learnt anything. Learning process never ends. Lot of cricketers and coaches have come and gone, a lot happened but the learning process never stopped.

“We go after people very quickly. We want overnight results, which doesn’t happen. We need to show some patience and if someone has got a chance then we must wait a little. I understand, you guys want some masala, everyone wants masala but we need to think about the country as well sometimes,” said Shoaib Malik.
