Windies Announce Squad For First Two India ODIs

Windies, on Monday (June 19), announced the same 13-man squad for the first two ODIs of the upcoming five-match series against India that played in the recently-concluded three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, they are set to miss their pace spearhead Shannon Gabriel for the important series as the 29-year old is still recovering from a side strain that he had suffered during the second ODI against Afghanistan earlier this month. He was replaced by Miguel Cummins for the third and final match which was eventually washed out without a ball being bowled.

Meanwhile, the upcoming series against India will be very important for Jason Holder & Co. as their hopes of securing a direct qualification for the 2019 World Cup is hanging by a thread. Currently the ninth-ranked ODI team, Windies only managed a 1-1 draw against Afghanistan and with only the top eight guaranteed qualification for the next World Cup, Windies need to do well in the upcoming matches to avoid playing a qualifying tournament, where the top two teams will go through to the tournament in England.

The five-match series is starting on June 23 at Queen Park’s Oval and will be concluded on July 6 at Sabina Park. The ODI series will be followed by a solitary T20I at Sabina Park on July 9.

Meanwhile, India has included a uncapped duo of Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav for the series. Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah are the only two players who were in the Champions Trophy squad but will not feature in the series in Caribbeans.
