Ronsford Beaton, the Windies’ fast bowler, has been reported with a suspected bowling action, the International Cricket Council confirmed on Sunday (December 24).

Beaton’s action was reported to be suspect by the match officials during the second ODI against New Zealand in Christchurch on Saturday.

As per the ICC regulations, the right-arm pacer now has 14 days to have his action tested at an ICC accredited centre. However, until the results of that test are known, he can continue bowling which will allow Windies to pick him in the playing eleven for the remainder of the ongoing series against the Black Caps which will conclude on Tuesday (December 26).

“Beaton’s bowling action will now be scrutinised further under the ICC process relating to suspected illegal bowling actions reported in Tests, ODIs and T20Is. He is required to undergo testing within 14 days, and, during this period, Beaton is permitted to continue bowling in international cricket until the results of the testing are known,” a release from the ICC stated.

The ICC defines the illegal bowling action, as being where the player’s elbow extends by an amount of more than 15 degrees between their arm reaching the horizontal and the ball getting released.

The turn of events, meanwhile, will be a big setback for the 25-year old who had played only two games so far. The bowler did not have the best of starts to his career, going wicketless in the first ODI in Whangarei before picking up one for 60 in the second game.
