Speaking to India Today in an interview with Boria Mazumdar, the Delhi batsman said that it is every cricketer’s obsession and a wish to win an ICC tournament since it is recognized at a global level. Virat Kohli’s men succumbed to Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017 where they lost by a whopping margin of 158 runs. They came up short against the Kiwis in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup, losing by 18 runs.

“So, I would say, you could look at winning an ICC tournament like an obsession or like a wish that people have. It is a beautiful thing to wish for because it is seen at a global level and every cricketer would want to win that,” Kohli stated.

While the Indian captain stressed the importance of winning the ICC tournaments, they want to be able to enjoy their game and not focus merely on getting success. He went on to say that it was unbelievable to have been a part of the team that lifted the World Cup and the Champions Trophy.

“But, if you ask me honestly, I mean I didn’t ever think that I would be part of the winning World Cup team in my first World Cup or two years down the line we will the Champions Trophy as well. So, I never thought of these things but it happened.” he concluded.
