Women Cricketer From Haryana Alleges Rape

At a time when Mithali Raj & her World Cup squad are being lauded across the country for their valiant effort in the World Cup and making the nation proud, a woman cricketer has alleged that the police has not taken action in the arrest of a self-styled priest from Bhilwara in Rajasthan who raped her on the pretext of marrying her. The women has claimed that she is a part of the Haryana cricket team.

According to report in The Times of India, the Hisar Sadar police had booked four persons, including the alleged key accused, his friend and a woman friend of the survivor earlier this year in March. The report further claimed that the rape survivor also appeared before Haryana DGP B S Sandhu, who was in Hisar to review the security arrangements in the wake of verdict in the rape case, on Sunday (August 20). The lady went on to make some more allegations, claiming that the police not only showed inaction but an inspector had also used abusive language with her.

As per sources, the woman cricketer, in her complaint, claimed that she had come in contact with the accused identified as Vidyanand through a male acquaintance of her friend. The sources also revealed that self-styled priest had allegedly called the victim to Haridwar and abused her on pretext of marrying her.

Meanwhile, Hisar SP Manisha Chaudhary said one of the accused had been arrested.

“The main accused is on the run and we are conducting raids to arrest him. We will arrest him as soon as possible,” she said.
