India Test wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha has dedicated his century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to Indian Air Force Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.  As the political tension between India and Pakistan escalate in the wake of the Pulwama attack, the entire nation was sent into shock when videos emerged showing Abhinandan being caught by Pakistani army. The Air Force officer was brutally beaten by Pakistani villagers before being taken by soldiers in clips that have since gone viral on social media.

Later, a video released by Major General Ghafoor shows a blindfolded Abhinandan telling his name and service number. He also very calmly says that is the only information he can reveal.

“I’m sorry sir…that’s all I’m supposed to tell you,” said Abhinandan.

Soon, the whole of India heaved a sigh of relief after another video showed the Wing Commander claiming that he has been treated well by the Pakistani forces.

Sipping a cup of tea, Abhinandan said:

“I would like to go on record and I will not change my statement IF I return to my country, the officers of the Pakistani army have looked after me very well and they are thorough gentlemen.”

And while the whole country is awaiting the return of Abhinandan from Pakistan, Saha came up with a heartwarming act. The India Test wicketkeeper took to Twitter to thank his well-wishers for their messages before dedicating his knock to Abhinandan Varthaman.

“Thank You everyone for your wishes for my today’s knock. This innings is very special to me and I dedicate this inning to India’s brave son AIF Wing Commander Abhinandan. I pray that he returns to India, safe. Jai Hind. ??,” wrote Wriddhiman Saha.
