Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has given his opinion on Rishabh Pant versus Wriddhiman Saha debate. Pant broke into the Indian team last year and got the chance to keep the wickets in absence of an injured Saha. And the youngster fully capitalised on the opportunity. In his maiden series which was in England, he scored a brilliant ton.

In the following series against West Indies at home, Pant scored two fifties before scoring another impressive century in Australia. But amidst his batting heroics, he failed to impress with his wicketkeeping. Right from his first Test series against England to this ongoing tour of West Indies, Pant has not made much of an impression with his wicketkeeping gloves.

Not only that, he is now also facing criticism for his shot selection in limited-overs cricket. In the recently-concluded T20I and ODI series against West Indies, he was dismissed while playing horrible shots on a number of occasions. Some are even arguing that Saha deserves a place in the Tests ahead of Pant and one cannot really argue against the claim.

Well, Gautam Gambhir is not one of them. The legendary opener feels that Saha will have to wait for his opportunity as Pant has performed well Test cricket.

“When someone (Pant) is averaging 48 (45.43 actually) with the bat and scored a hundred each in England and Australia, he deserves to be playing Test cricket. Saha needs to wait for his opportunity as Pant has grabbed his opportunity with both hands,” Gambhir told PTI.

India, meanwhile, will take on West Indies in the second and final Test from August 30 in Jamaica. Following the conclusion of the game, the team will fly back to India to host South Africa. Both the teams will play three T20Is and as many Tests.
