BCCI’s approach as far as communicating with the media regarding the players’ injuries in recent times have met with criticism from several quarters. The Indian cricket board has not been very clear with the injuries and is facing criticism once again after the way they dealt with the injuries of Rohit Sharma and Wriddhiman Saha.

Both Rohit Sharma and Wriddiman Saha are not fit at the moment and are part of India’s Test squads for the tour of Australia. But while Rohit is set to undergo a rehabilitation programme in Bengaluru, Wriddhiman Saha has traveled to Australia this week.

Interestingly, Saha did not play for SunRisers Hyderabad towards the end of the IPL 2020 due to the injury but Rohit played three games on the trot despite being not named in the squads. Unsurprisingly, there are confusion all around with the way the BCCI have communicated with the media over the injuries.

Sourav Ganguly denies confusion:

While the BCCI has been facing the heat for not trying to end the confusion over the recent injury cases, their president Sourav Ganguly has insisted that the concerned authorities know everything. The former India skipper, while speaking about Saha’s injury, said that ‘people don’t understand injuries, that is why they talk rubbish.

Interestingly, several former players including Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag as well as Dilip Gavaskar had called for clarity on Rohit’s injury after he had returned to action in the IPL despite not being named in the India squads.

“Who should know [about player injuries]? We know, the Indian physio knows, the NCA knows,” Sourav Ganguly told The Week. “I think people don’t know how the BCCI works. The BCCI trainers, physio and Wriddhi himself know that he has two hamstring issues. People don’t understand injuries, that is why they talk rubbish.

Sourav Ganguly further said that Saha traveled to Australia with the team as he is expected to be fit for the Test series. The four-match series is scheduled to start on December 17 in Adelaide. Before that, India will play three ODIs and three T20Is against the hosts.

“Wriddhi is travelling to Australia because he will be fit for Tests. He is not part of the shorter formats. For the entire duration of the IPL, Indian physios and trainers were in Dubai. [India physio] Dr. Nitin Patel is managing injuries and monitoring it all,” he added.
