India star Rohit Sharma, on Monday, joined the long list of big names from cricket who are paying tribute to Yuvraj Singh. The legendary batsman announced his retirement from international cricket as well as Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday to bring down curtains on a glorious career. Yuvraj’s retirement is likely to make the cricketing world emotional but it was on the cards for quite some time now.

Yuvraj will go down in history as one of the biggest match-winners to have played for the nation. His contribution in India’s impressive performances from last decade is unparalleled. It did not matter what the venue was or who the opposition was, Yuvraj lived up to the lofty expectations more often than not. But he will be best remembered for his starring displays in the the 2007 World T20 and the 2011 World Cup.

In the 2007 World T20, he hit Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over during India’s Super 8 match against England. Yuvraj didn’t stop there as he demolished an Australian attack in the semi-final by scoring 70 off just 30 balls. India had gone on to beat Pakistan to lift the trophy.

Four years later, he played a huge role in ending India’s 28-year-long wait for the biggest prize in world cricket – the Cricket World Cup. He scored 362 runs, including a century against the West Indies in Chennai, and picked up 15 wickets to bag the Man of the Tournament award.

Well, the fans would never seen Yuvraj in the blue jersey again. And as Yuvraj announced his retirement, Rohit Sharma pointed out that he deserved a better send-off after 17 years of top-flight cricket.

“You don’t know what you got till its gone. Love you brotherman. You deserved a better send off,” wrote Rohit Sharma on Twitter.

After his announcement, Yuvraj revealed that he was promised a farewell game by the BCCI provided he failed the ‘Yo Yo’ fitness test. However, he passed it and it never happened. Yuvraj had last played for India in June 2017.
