Ahead of the third T20I at the Wankhede Stadium, a lot of cricket fans and the analysts felt that the toss-winning skipper would likely be going to lift the cup. But, that wasn’t the case, as the Virat Kohli-led side proved that defending a target is also a beneficial thing for the team at the Wankhede Stadium. Following the emphatic victory, Ravi Shastri showered words of praise on the entire team.

After being invited to bat first, India were off to a flying start with openers Rohit and Rahul adding a 135-run stand for the first wicket. The duo slammed the Windies bowlers all around the park to set the stage for a big total. Rohit played a sublime knock of 71 runs off 34 balls laced with six fours and five sixes while Rahul slammed a brilliant 91 off 56 balls with nine fours and four sixes.

Though the move to send Rishabh Pant at number three didn’t work, the skipper Virat Kohli never let the momentum down. He took on the charge and smashed Windies bowlers with ease. His partnership with KL Rahul helped the Indian team to post a massive 240 runs on the board. Virat Kohli scored 29-ball 71 laced with four fours and seven sixes.

In reply to the chase, West Indies never looked like chasing the tally. After losing Lendl Simmons and Brandon King cheaply, Shimron Hetmyer and Kieron Pollard looked like delivering the goods. However, the masterstroke from Virat Kohli to bowl Kuldeep Yadav from round the wicket helped India to break the partnership, which looked like doing something exceptional.

Though Kieron Pollard continued the fight, the bowlers did their job to perfection as Windies were restricted on 173/8 in 20 overs to hand India an easy win. Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav picked up a couple of wickets each to wrap up the game and the series.

India won the first game of the series at Hyderabad before losing the second T20I at Thiruvananthapuram. It was a much-needed victory for India at the Wankhede Stadium, as they wanted to prove that they are capable enough in defending the tallies. Now, both the teams will lock horns in the three-match ODI series, which gets underway on December 15th.
