India’s Under-19 team, India A team and different age group sides have found immense success under the national coaches; Rahul Dravid, to be precise. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) seemed to have taken notice of it and now plans to implement something similar. As a result, there are reports of their former captain, Younis Khan getting considered as the Under-19 coach and manager. Not only this but one of their finest batting talents, Muhammad Yousuf is also in line to take up the job at National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

Younis Khan to become Pakistan’s ‘Rahul Dravid’?

Younis Khan is a veteran Pakistan batsman. Having played for nearly two decades, Younis has been Pakistan’s highest run-scorer in Tests with 10,099 runs to his name. Though he announced his retirement not long ago, the right-handed batsman hit a double hundred in the Oval Test in 2018, aged 38. Meanwhile, his 218 brought back old memories, as his record helped Pakistan win the game by ten wickets.

However, Ehsan Mani, who is keen an observer has looked upto the changes the BCCI and CA have made to their junior coaching staff; thus able to find results. Mani acknowledged the fact and said,

“Australia utilised the services of their top players like Rodney Marsh, Allan Border and Ricky Pointing while India has also given Dravid the responsibility of manning their under-19 players and it has produced good results,” PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani said.

As a result, the name of Younis Khan popped up, and there could be chances of board handing him the baton to take care of Pakistan’s future.

What’s the role of Muhammad Yusuf?

The Pakistan Cricket Board over the years has altered with their coaches at the ground level; which even raised questions over proper nurturing of the younger players in the setup. Ehsan also pointed out the problem and said they had identified a former player to take the reigns from here on.

“We also need to have classes for our players as they go on to become ambassadors for the country. They will be given grooming and education at the National Cricket Academy,” Mani said.

“We should have attached our own coaches with foreign coaches just like India did so that they could have also learnt a lot more.”

Though Mani didn’t name any, the speculations are rising high that it could be Muhammad Yusuf.
