While many feel that the door of the Indian team has been finally closed for Yuvraj Singh after he was not included in the team for the upcoming series against Australia, his former teammate and captain Sourav Ganguly feels the World Cup-winning star can still make a comeback.

After being ousted from the team for the series against Sri Lanka, Yuvraj was expected to return to the team after chief selector MSK Prasad had said that the southpaw was rested and not dropped. However, his career was dealt a huge blow when he was not recalled for the upcoming series. Moreover, the other turn of events also indicated that the 35-year old does not feature prominently in selectors’ plans. He was not included in any of the three squads for the ongoing Duleep Trophy and the upcoming warm-up game against Australia which was a stark reminder that the he was not even among country’s top 74 cricketers- Fifteen of which played during the Sri Lanka series, 45 are playing the Duleep Trophy and the remaining 14 from the squad for the warm-up game.

As expected, speculations are rife that Yuvraj would not return to the team again. However, Ganguly feels there is still a chance.

“Yes, yes he can make a comeback if he fights. why not, nothing is over till it’s actually over,” Ganguly told PTI.

Meanwhile, head coach Ravi Shastri has also thrown his support behind Yuvraj by saying that the veteran batsman can still make a comeback to the team if he finds his form and improves his fitness and fielding.

“Any player is eligible for selection if they perform well on the following parameters – fitness, current form and fielding. Fielding is very important if you want to win consistently,” Shastri told India TV.

“I am not involved in selection. The door is not closed on Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina. Any player who performs well on these parameters is eligible for selection,” he added.
