The Rohit Sharma-led side has been the most successful franchise in the history of IPL. They have four trophies to their name in comparison to Chennai Super Kings’ three; who have reached the playoff stages on all editions of the cash-rich league.

In the last season as well, Mumbai Indians got the better of MS Dhoni-led Chennai in a close encounter in the finals. Chasing 150 set by Mumbai, Chennai finished on 148 after superb bowling display from Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga. The veteran Sri Lankan defended the target in the final over after Bumrah excelled to return with two for 14 from his four overs.

Meanwhile, in a bid to build a stronger team, Mumbai Indians have decided to vacate some spots in their line-up before going to the auctions. As a result, they have released ten players who will go to the auctions. Yuvraj Singh, who retired from international cricket earlier this year, chose to be out of IPL as well and features on the list. Instead, he plied his trade in the Global T20 Canada and Abu Dhabi T10 League.

The swashbuckling opener from West Indies, Evin Lewis has also failed to retain his spot in the squad for IPL 2020. He has largely been inconsistent with the bat which costed his place. Alzarri Joseph, who made dream IPL debut claiming six wickets against Sunrisers Hyderabad was also left out of the squad. Mumbai Indians also released young fast bowler Rasikh Salam who hogged the limelight with his raw pace.

Ben Cutting and Adam Milne have not been at their best for the Mumbai side in the recent editions while Jason Behrendorff failed to get enough matches after a solid start in the presence of Bumrah and Malinga. Mumbai Indians will look to strengthen their bowling unit in the upcoming auctions after leaving out a handful of bowlers fro their current set-up.
