With the T20 World Cup less than a year away, talks regarding the tournament have become the talk of the town. And as India prepare for the competition, legendary cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh have also spoken on what the teams needs to do ahead of the marquee event in Australia. Both the players were part of the Indian team that won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and definitely know a thing or two about how to succeed in the tournament.

India, on the other hand, have not laid their hands on the trophy since 2007. In 2014, they had made it to the final but lost the title-decider to Sri Lanka. In the last edition which was hosted in India only, the Men in Blue had made it to the semifinal before losing to eventual winners West Indies. India have also not won an ICC tournament since winning the Champions Trophy in 2013.

Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh’s suggestion:

As the Indian team-management is busy preparing the team for the big event, Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh have said that the team should be finalised four months prior to the marquee event.

“I think the team should be ready four months before the World Cup, I mean what should be your 16 or 14. I think we should be ready prior to the World Cup,” said Yuvraj Singh on Aaj Tak.

Harbhajan Singh echoed similar views, saying that it is important to make sure that the players are assured over their place in the team for the tournament.

“The team should be set and players should know that they are playing the World cup, it shouldn’t happen that there is any doubt whether one will get a place,” said Harbhajan.

“They should be sure about their place and role in the team. The more clarity they have it would be better for India’s preparation,” he added.

India, meanwhile, are currently busy playing the three-match ODI series against West Indies. The Virat Kohli-led side were stunned in the first game by eight wickets and will have everything to play for in the second ODI in Vizag.
