Team India has been playing non-stop cricket in the recent past. After a memorable tour of South Africa, they will travel to Sri Lanka for a tri-nation T20I series also involving Bangladesh.

However, the team traveling to Sri Lanka will be a new looked one with Yuvraj Singh ignored. Captain Virat Kohli and former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni have been rested. Rohit Sharma will lead the team in his absence. There have been several other changes as well.

Rishabh Pant has made also made a comeback while Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Washington Sundar and Mohammad Siraj also earned call-ups. The fast bowling duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah has also been rested from the Nidahas Trophy which will mark the 70th year of Sri Lanka’s independence.

However despite so many changes in the team, veteran batsman Yuvraj Singh continues to face the ax. The southpaw last donned the national colors during the ODI series in the Caribbean after the ICC Champions Trophy. After a great comeback earlier in the year his performances started to dip and ultimately he was dropped from the team again.

A Sensational Comeback

Earlier in 2017, Yuvraj announced his arrival with his highest ODI score. The stylish southpaw smashed a sensational 150 against England and rolled back the years. It was his first ODI century since scoring his last in the 2011 ICC World Cup. He looked a changed cricketer and the sense of aura and charm in his batting was back again.

Courtesy his impressive showing Yuvi was selected in the ICC Champions Trophy squad. The southpaw began the campaign with a quickfire half-century against arch-rivals Pakistan. However, he wasn’t able to make a mark through the rest of the tournament. He played in all the matches and was even selected for the next series in the Windies.

The stylish batsman failed to make a mark in the bilateral series in the Windies and was dropped subsequently. He has been playing on domestic cricket since then in a hope to make a comeback again. However, the Indian selectors seemed to have closed their doors on the veteran cricketer.

The Current team combination is preventing Yuvraj’s return

While there is no doubt about the fact that Yuvraj has been one of the most celebrated limited-overs cricketers in India, we must also understand the current team combination of the Men in Blue. In such a fit environment, Yuvraj might not be the ideal pick. But given it was the shortest format and so many players were rested the experience of Yuvraj might have come in handy.

Even though the doors are shut on Yuvraj, he will give all his extra yards to make another comeback in the national team. He has made a sensational recovery in the past, and one more cannot be ruled out yet. But as of now, the southpaw is on a hiatus and will be looking to make a return anytime soon.
