The 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 50-over World Cup-winning former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh is all set to make a return to competitive cricket after being named in Punjab’s 30-men squad for next month’s Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament.

Yuvraj, who last played for India in 2017, had announced his retirement from all forms of the game including the Indian Premier League in July 2019, in a bid to ply his trade in foreign T20 competitions.

However, earlier this year, Yuvraj Singh decided to come out of retirement in a bid to bolster the Punjab team and play the role of a mentor for the youngsters. Punjab Cricket Association secretary Puneet Bali had requested the southpaw to come out of retirement.

Yuvraj is currently sweating it out in nets in a bid to prepare for next month’s edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament. Thirty Punjab cricketers have been divided in two groups in a preparatory camp held in Ludhiana.

Meanwhile, left-arm pacer Barinder Sran, who had moved to Chandigarh last year after being left out of the Punjab squad, has also been named in the 30-member squad.

The Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy will kickoff Indian cricket’s 2020/21 domestic season. The teams will assemble in their respective bio-bubbles on January 2, and the tournament will take place across six venues between January 10-31.
