India legend Yuvraj Singh has revealed how an Australian pacer first made him realise that he should retire from the game. The former India batsman brought down curtains on his illustrious international career last year after failing to make the cut for the World Cup in UK.

Yuvraj Singh will go down as one of the biggest match-winners for India. He starred in India’s two biggest wins of this century so far – Word T20 in 2007 and the World Cup in 2011. In the 2007 World T20, he hit Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over during India’s Super 8 match against England.

Yuvraj didn’t stop there as he demolished an Australian attack in the semi-final by scoring 70 off just 30 balls. India had gone on to beat Pakistan to lift the trophy. Four years later, he played a huge role in ending India’s 28-year-long wait for the biggest prize in world cricket – the 50-over World Cup. He scored 362 runs, including a century against the West Indies in Chennai, and picked up 15 wickets to bag the Man of the Tournament award.

Unfortunately, the second half of his career did not turn out as expected as he was diagnosed with cancer. Although he beat the disease and made a miraculous return to the field, Yuvraj Singh never managed to cement his place in the team again. He eventually decided to bring an end to his international career last summer.

And in a recent interaction with his former teammate Jasprit Bumrah on Instagram, the World Cup-winner joked how Australia pacer Andrew Tye first made him think about retiring from the game.

“I realised I should retire after I played with you (Jasprit Bumrah) guys in the final stages of my career. But I actually thought of retirement first in 2018 when I was playing the IPL for Kings XI Punjab and Andrew Tye started calling me ‘Yuvi pa’,” Yuvraj Singh told Bumrah.
