Another batting masterclass from Virat Kohli helped India register their biggest successful chase to beat West Indies in the first T20I on Friday. The India captain scored a career-best 94* as the hosts chased down the mammoth total of 207 without much trouble. The Men in Blue crossed the finishing line with eight ball remaining.

India started their chase on a shaky note as their star opener Rohit Sharma departed cheaply. But before West Indies could make further inroads in the game, KL Rahul and Kohli steadied the ship. The two shared exactly 100 runs for the second wicket before Rahul departed. Before his departure, Rahul scored 62 off 40 balls.

Once Rahul returned back to the pavilion, Kohli took the onus on himself to lead the charge. After struggling initially, Kohli found his rhythm just in time and did not look after that. He went on to smash 6 fours and as many sixes to give India the lead in the three-match series.

Yuvraj Singh unimpressed:

As India were about to start their chase, former India batsman Yuvraj Singh took to Twitter to criticise the players. The legendary batsman was not at all impressed with the level of fielding on display in the game. The butter-fingered Indian fielders had a day to forget on the field.  Washington Sundar and Rohit Sharma both dropped a couple of catches each.

Kohli also had a poor outing as India allowed the visitors to post a mammoth total of 207 for 5 in 20 overs. In the 16th over saw, Sundar dropped Shimron Hetmyer on 44, who then went on to score his maiden half-century in T20Is. In the same over, Rohit dropped Kieron Pollard on 24, who went on to hit 37 off 19 balls as the West Indies posted the second highest total against India in India.

Unimpressed with India’s performance, Yuvraj took to Twitter to criticise the players, writing:

“India very poor on the field today ! Young guns reacting a bit late on the ball! Too much cricket ? ? Let’s get these runs come on lads.”
