Yuzvendra Chahal Hails MS Dhoni, Calls Him Great Mind Reader

That MS Dhoni’s leadership skills are very important for India in the World Cup is no secret. Past and former players not only from India but also outside have talked about why Dhoni’s presence is so important for the team. And now Yuzvendra Chahal has also highlighted the importance of the former India skipper in the team.

Chahal, who made his ODI and T20I debut under Dhoni’s captaincy, has time and again credited the wicketkeeper-batsman for his success. The leg-spinner has always said that Dhoni’s invaluable tips from behind the stumps has helped him do well with the ball. Chahal has once again highlighted the role Dhoni plays in grooming youngsters in the team.

“Whenever I am in doubt, I rush to Mahi bhai. He has got an abundance of experience. Not just me, it helps all the members in the team,” Yuzvendra Chahal told Timesofindia.com.

Hailing Dhoni’s game-reading skills, Chahal said that Dhoni quickly finds out what the batsmen are thinking and advise the spinners accordingly.

“Even when he is behind the stumps, his eyes are on us and the batsmen. He can read body language perfectly. He is a great mind reader,” Chahal said before adding: “He can read a batsman’s footwork closely and then, after a couple of deliveries, he tells us where exactly to bowl. And it really works for me.”

There were more praise in store for Dhoni from Chahal as the youngster lauded the former captain’s all round skills.

“Ball kidhar daalna hai (where to bowl), Mahi bhai knows. He is a mix of a bowler, wicket-keeper, batsman and a fielder,” Yuzvendra Chahal said.

India, meanwhile, will be opening their campaign on June 5 against South Africa. The Men in Blue are one of the firm favourites to win the competition and will be eyeing a solid start.
