Zimbabwe cricket have suffered another big setback as their promising pacer Blessing Muzarabani has decided to take an indefinite break from cricket with immediate effect. The young pacer announced the shocking news on Thursday (August 16).

The break means that Muzarbani will be unavailable for Zimbabwe’s forthcoming tours of South Africa and Bangladesh in September and November. Muzarabani mentioned that he is looking to enhance his career and as a result, plans to move to England.

“I wish my former team mates and Zimbabwe Cricket all the very best for the future,” said Muzarbani. “I have been honoured to represent my country but feel this is an appropriate time for me to pursue other challenges both personally and professionally.”

The lanky pacer, who is known for his raw pace, represented Zimbabwe in 18 One-Day Internationals, 6 T20Is and one Test so far. He had a poor outing against Pakistan in the 5-game series. While his team lost the series 0-5, he managed to pick up just 2 wickets in four matches. Prior to that, Muzarabani was the leading wicket-taker for Zimbabwe with five scalps in the Tri-series involving Australia and Pakistan.

The latest development should serve as a big warning for Zimbabwe cricket which is plummeting into darkness with every passing day.  Zimbabwe Cricket is currently seeking help from the ICC to pay its debt. The ICC has also offered to work with the nation  “to develop a plan for managing its cricketing, management and financial structures which will be reviewed on an ongoing basis”.

The board even failed to pay their players the salaries. As a result, the team had to take the field without five big-name players during the T20 triangular series against Australia and Pakistan. The five players were Brendan Taylor, Graeme Cremer, Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams and Craig Ervine.
