South Africa National Cricket Team have endured a serious blow ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 as the 33-year-old fast bowling all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius has been ruled out of the marquee tournament after suffering a severe injury.

On Thursday, October 6, Cricket South Africa (CSA) took to Twitter to share the news of the talented all-rounder being ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 as well as the ongoing three-match ODI series between India and South Africa.

CSA stated that the 33-year-old all-rounder fractured his left thumb during the third match of the three-match T20I series against the India National Cricket Team and the injury will keep him out of action for a while now.

“#PROTEAS SQUAD UPDATE. All-rounder Dwaine Pretorius has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against India and the proceeding ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to a fracture of his left thumb. #BePartOfIt,” Cricket South Africa (CSA) tweeted.

The 22-year-old fast bowling all-rounder Marco Jansen has been included in the South Africa National Cricket Team squad for the three-match ODI series against Shikhar Dhawan-led India National Cricket Team as a replacement for Pretorius.

The ODI games between India and South Africa are scheduled to be played in Lucknow, Ranchi, and Delhi on October 6, October 9 and October 11.

Meanwhile, no decision has been made on Dwaine Pretorius’ replacement in the squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. South Africa have Marco Jansen and Andile Phehlukwayo as reserves in the World Cup squad and one of the players is likely to be included in the 15-member squad.

This is the second big blow to the Proteas ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 as the star batter Rassie van der Dussen has also been ruled out of the tournament.

Notably, the star batter has been ruled out of the tournament due to a fracture of his left index finger, which he sustained during the second Test against England in Manchester

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which is the eighth edition of the multi-nation tournament, is scheduled to be played from October 16 to November 13 in Australia.
