Delhi Capitals have built an excellent Indian core from which they could build the team and they can pick their former players who have been doing really well for other franchises. The change in captaincy has certainly picked the team up and Shreyas Iyer has been simply outstanding with his captaincy at a young age.

They have made the playoffs for the last two years consecutively and even went to play their first finals last year which they lost to the Mumbai Indians. There will be lots of expectations on them and here are 5 former players Delhi Capitals should target in IPL 2022 Auction.

5 Former Players Delhi Capitals Should Target:

David Warner:

If the mega auction, Delhi might not be able to retain the opening combination of Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw, and they could get in someone line David Warner who is expected to be released by the franchise. Warner has one of the most consistent batsmen in IPL history and he started his IPL career with the Delhi franchise in 2009.

Warner is one of the dangerous batsmen and he can rip any bowling attack. He is a match-winner at the top of the order and his stats in the IPL are as good as any player. He can do the captaincy as well if needed and will be a huge boost to any franchise. Delhi Capitals should target the Australian opener in the IPL 2022 Auction.

Mohammed Shami:

Mohammed Shami is one of the best Indian fast bowlers going around in the country and he is an integral part of any team. He is currently playing for the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2021 and if Punjab does not retain him through RTM card, then Delhi might be tempted to get the fast bowler back in their squad.

Shami has played for the Delhi Daredevils from 2014 to the 2018 edition and does know the team really well. Shami has grown to become a better T20 bowler in the last two years and can certainly do the job with his yorkers and in the powerplay. Alongside Kagiso Rabada, Shami might be the perfect option and both can be very destructive.

Glenn Maxwell:

Maxwell can be another option for Delhi Capitals at the middle order and he has shown that he can bowl some useful off-spin too. Over the year, Delhi has missed the trick by using him as a finisher rather than giving him the time to settle. He is too good a player to be facing just 10 balls at the back end.

Maxwell started his IPL career with the Delhi franchise in 2012 and played for them in the 2018 and 2019 seasons again where he couldn’t contribute much. However, he has always been under the radar of the franchise and he has done really well for Royal Challengers Bangalore this year which might fancy his chances.

Rahul Tewatia:

Rahul Tewatia did wonders for the Rajasthan Royals in the last IPL despite the franchise not making it to the playoffs and he certainly showed his capabilities with the bat. He also bowled some economic overs and proved to be a great addition to the side.

He even earned his maiden call up to the Indian side after the impressive performances and if he isn’t retained by the Royals, then the franchises are certainly going to have an eye on him. Tewatia played for the Delhi Capitals in the 2018 and 2019 edition and the growth of the all-rounder might just bring him back to the squad.

Pat Cummins:

Pat Cummins played for the Delhi franchise in the 2017 edition and he can be a great addition to the Delhi franchise who have been searching for a partner for the Kagiso Rabada. It will be a deadly combination of Cummins and Rabada and Delhi Capitals will certainly have their eyes on him.

Cummins is the world number one test bowler and he showed in this season for the Kolkata Knight Riders that he is no mug with the bat too. His ball-striking ability is underrated and can be a great finisher at the end. If KKR doesn’t manage to retain him, Delhi Capitals will certainly go for the Aussie speedster.
